Vanessa Hudgens definitely wants to move away from her teen icon status and move into being a serious actress.

A few days ago, she shared a new pic with fans of her new hairstyle without extensions (you can see it HERE). She had to have them because she chopped off all her hair to act in "Gimme Shelter", but it's grown out now! 

She also has some amazing new shots for Untitled magazine. Vanessa looks really grown-up and elegant. She talked about how tough it's been to move on her from her little girl image.

Now that she's 23, Vanessa wants to act in more mature roles:

“High School Musical was incredible and it was so fun and it gave me so many fans which I’m very, very thankful for, but it also closed people’s minds up as to which characters I could portray. They only saw me as Gabriella Montez and I love that character but there’s so much more to me than just that."

Vanessa managed to land some more grown-up roles, and she's hoping to surprise fans with her latest movies. She plays young women with pretty complicated lives in both Spring Breakers and Gimme Shelter, both of which will probably be rated R.
