LIST OF THE NOMINEES FOR THE MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS 2012

Rihanna, her BFF Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, One Direction...these are just some of the great nominees for thi year's MTV Video Music Awards.

Rihanna is one of the most-nominated artists this year. She nabbed 5! She's nominated for her own work, as well as her collabs with Drake and Coldplay. A fun fact – in one of the categories, Rihanna will be competing against herself.

Justin is nominated in two of the biggest categories: Best Male Video and Best Pop Video.

The 1D lads are also nominated for two important awards. They'll be competing against The Wanted and Carly Rae Jepsen for Best New Artist. And in the Best Pop Video cateogory, they'll face off against Justin Bieber and Rihanna.

Demi, Selena, and Adele all got nominations too. Demi's song “Skyscraper” was nominated for Best Video With a Message.

Selena just got one nomination, but it's for a big prize – Best Female Video. But this year, it's a tough category becase it includes Rihanna, Katy Perry, Beyonce, and Nicki Minaj

And here's an exciting piece of news – 1D will perform at the awards ceremony! They've already confirmed it and are super excited. Liam said “I think performing at the VMAs is such a huge occasion and we're really looking forward to it. It ranks up there with one of the best performances we'll do so far, so we're really looking forward to it.”

The show is on September 6th at 8 p.m. On MTV. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are scheduled to present, but due to their current rocky status fans aren't sure if that will happen.
