Taylor Swift has tons of songs that are inspired by love…and when love ends.
Lots of her biggest hits are about ex-boyfriends (“Tim McGraw”, “Picture to Burn”, and “Should’ve Said No,” just to name a few). But one of those exes isn’t too happy about being in a song! 34-year-old singer John Mayer is the topic of Taylor’s hit “Dear John” from Speak Now.
He said “It made me feel terrible because I didn’t deserve it…it was a really lousy thing for her to do.” John also said Taylor didn’t warn him about it – “I never got an e-mail. I never got a phone call. I was really caught off-guard, and it really humiliated me.”
But it’s not like John was above saying some nasty things about Taylor himself. He said “I think it’s kind of cheap songwriting. I know she’s the biggest thing in the world, and I’m not trying to sink anybody’s ship, but I think it’s abusing your talented to rub your hands together and go ‘Wait til he gets a load of this!’”
Here’s a sample of the lyrics: “Dear John, I see it all, now it was wrong. Don’t you think 19 is too young to be played by your dark twisted games when I loved you so?”
It definitely makes sense that John doesn’t like hearing those things being said about him. John and Taylor started dating in late 2009, but they split up in 2010.
Do you think it what Taylor did was fair, or are you siding with John Mayer on this one?
