Going back to school is always a little nerve-wracking..but it's even tougher when you have to move on to middle school or high school.
Moving onwards and upwards is a big change, but it doesn't have to be scary. Here are some ways you can make the transition smooth and stress free.
Accept that you're feeling nervous – it's totally okay. Everybody feels that way when changes happen. But don't let it get to you. You're not alone! Take a deep breath and relax.
Don't expect things to be the same, but remember that this isn't a bad thing. Think of two of your best friends – they're probably different in lots of ways. That's not bad at all, it just makes them unique. Balance your old life and new life.
Think of an outfit you love for your first day. Don't go crazy thinking of how you can impress everyone – just wear something you love and feel comfortable in.
Pay attention to your new school. Figure out what the social scene is like, and see if there are any people you'd potentially like to be friends with.
Ask lots of questions – most people are happy to help you out. Maybe an older friend can show you the ropes.
Participate in something new. Maybe there's a new team, a school choir, or an amazing film club your old school didn't have. Try things out and have fun!
Start the year off with good study habits. Don't procrastinate, don't ditch class, and don't make a habit of being late.
Be patient. Your new school might feel weird for a while, and making friends always takes a bit of time. But hang in there – you'll get there soon!
Most of all, be yourself! Don't peer pressure get to you. Now's the perfect time to reinvent yourself and become more “you”.
You may have heard awful stories about high school or middle school. The truth is, the scary way school is often shown in the movies or on T.V. isn't realistic. You'll make some incredible memories and friends at your new school, even if it feels weird at first.
