CELEBRITY BULLYING STORIES

CELEBRITY BULLYING STORIES

Bullying is becoming a bigger issue today than it used to be. But that doesn't mean that bullying is that new of a problem.

Here's what Lady Gaga had to say about her experience with being bullied:

“The boys picked me up and threw me in the trash can on the street, on the corner of my block while all the other girls from the school were leaving and could see me in the trash… Everybody was laughing and I was even laughing. I had that nervous giggle… I remember even one of the girls looking at me like, ‘Are you about to cry? You’re pathetic.’ That’s what it felt like, you’re pathetic.”

“It didn’t sink in with me how bullying affected me until later in my life. I knew that it affected me deeply but it wasn’t until a little bit later that I realized how much it affected me and how much it was still very present… I think it took me to get to know my fans and to see similar struggles in them to access that wound in myself".

Demi Lovato was also bullied:

“I literally didn’t know why they were being so mean to me… And when I would ask them why, they would just say, ‘Well, you’re fat.’ I was bullied because I was fat. And then a few months later I developed an eating disorder, and that’s kind of what I’ve been dealing with ever since.”

“I asked to leave public school… I had a hate wall in the bathroom, and everyone signed a petition that said ‘We all hate Demi Lovato.’”

Glee's Chris Colfer learned to deal with it:

“I personally was never physically bullied or tossed into dumpsters, but I definitely was verbally and socially bullied.”

“It definitely taught me to be quick on my feet with witty comebacks… I remember one time someone screamed ‘fag’ at me in the hallway, and I screamed back, ‘Yeah, but can you spell it?’ Everyone in the hallway laughed at the other kid; it was nice to reverse the abuse.”

“The emotions that [my 'Glee' character Kurt Hummel] goes through are very real. I’ve personally gone through all of those.”

Taylor Swift turned to music to deal with it:

"Junior high was actually sort of hard because I got dumped by this group of popular girls. They didn’t think I was cool or pretty enough, so they stopped talking to me…. The kids at school [also] thought it was weird that I liked country [music]. They’d make fun of me.”

“There are two ways you can [deal] with it if you are bullied. You can let it destroy you, or you can use it as fuel to drive you: to dream bigger, work harder. I wasn’t invited to parties and I look back now and I’m so thankful that I was at home playing guitar until my fingers bled".

Rhianna got bullied because of her skin color:

“I was a little confused as a kid because I grew up with my mom, and my mom is black. So I was cultured in a very ‘black’ way. But when I go to school, I’m getting called ‘white.’”

“They would look at me and would curse me out. I didn’t understand. I just knew I saw people of all different shades and I was light. Now I’m in a much bigger world".

Selena Gomez had to deal with bullying too:

“I was never the popular kid at school. I had two friends, but I just sat at the back of the room and got on with my work.”

“School is such an awkward time in your life. I was never confident in school… I was definitely made fun of for being in the [entertainment] industry."

Are you surprised by any of these stories? How do you deal with bullying?
