Bella Thorne’s dad died in a car accident when she was only 9 years old, so she and her family celebrate special occasions like Father’s Day in a way to honor his memory.

Here’s a beautiful letter she wrote in memory of her dad:

“Since Father’s Day is coming up on Sunday, I wanted to talk to you guys about my daddy. As a lot of you might already know, he passed away in a car accident when I was 9. Losing someone you love is never easy, and not a day goes by that I don’t miss him.

But when you do lose someone important to you, there are so many things you can do to keep their memory alive. I send a balloon to heaven every year on the day my daddy passed to remember him, and think about how special he was to me on his birthday and Father’s Day too.

I also try to honor his memory by being the best person I can be and helping others. My daddy always taught me not to give up and to believe in myself, so I try to remember that everyday. I only wish he was here to see everything I’ve achieved.”
