Using chopsticks may be a bit weird for you, but it is the way things are done in Japan, China, and Vietnam. There they have used chopsticks for thousands of years.
The fork, the knife and the spoon are simplified down to two easy, slender pieces of wood with which you can grab bits of food. But to learn to use this new utensil, you need to practice. You don't want to go to a restaurant and accidentally fling food across the table because you don't know how to use the chopsticks correctly.
When you use chopsticks, don't spear the food with them. They are not forks! They are used to scoop the food. If you are having trouble, just ask for a fork.
Also, it is not cool to play around with chopsticks, even though we realize they sort of look like drumsticks!
And finally, don't grab a ball of rice with chopsticks. This is considered rude, because it is a custom for funerals.
